Ask Eternity: I Want To Cheat...Help!
Hey Eternity,
I am writing to you because I am in a total dilemma! Recently, I celebrated my one year anniversary with my girl "Haley." She's the love of my life. But I have my eyes on this guy at the crematory who I sincerely have a crush on. Let's call this guy "Xavier." Xavier and I want to chill, and I know something will happen, as in we will end up kissing. That's it of course. Mind you, I go away to school oversease in less than two weeks. Should I just oust the love fire within me and be faithful to my girl- afterall I do leave for school in England pretty soon- or should I cheat? This question is blunt, but I really want your opinion.
Sincerely,
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
Quite honestly, I don't think you belong in a relationship at this time. You do not seem to take commitment seriously at all. You stated that you recently celebrated your one year anniversary with your girlfriend. Yet, you desire someone else. Really think about whether or not you want to maintain your current steady relationship with "Haley." If not, break off ties with her because it is totally unfair to cheat on someone who you profess to love. Note that "Xavier" is just a fling. Are you willing to throw away your established relationship for momentary personal gratification?
Also, you mentioned that you are going away to school in England. There would be no purpose in trying to do something with "Xavier," when you won't even be around him in the first place- not as if he will stick around and be faithful to you while you are in England, knowing full well that you cheated on your long-term partner with him. Whatever seeds you sow in the soil of the universe, you will reap tenfold. The law of Karma is nothing less than accurate. Ultimately, you know the answer to your own question. Thoroughly think through your actions, before you wound up hurting someone else and yourself in the process. Hope this helps Anonymous.

Ask Eternity: It's All About Balance
Ask Eternity: Pregnancy, the Ultimate Decision
Ask Eternity segment has resurfaced again, on quite a somber note. Below is the letter of a heartbroken young girl, who currently, is faced with a tough, tough decision, involving some real moral and ethic issues. Read on.
Dear Eternity,
I am 18 years old and pregnant. Right now, I feel like my world is turning upside down simply because I am so young, and my image has now been tainted. Night after night, I seek to blame others for my predicament:" well my dad was not in my life" and " my mother was always doing her own thing, seeing everyone she could possibly see in her single life," but the thing is I chose to do the things I did. Now I am 3 months pregnant, and I do not know what to do. Should I abort the baby or should I keep it? This question, I know is extremely blunt, but I am just so desperate for the unknown answers.
Sincerely,
Confused
Dear Confused,
I read your letter and found some of your statements most profound, specifically the point you made about your image being tainted. What exactly do you mean by your image being tainted? I could only imagine that you are disappointed in yourself and your loved ones may share the same sentiments. However, you are NOT tainted. One could not fully imagine the stress and unrest you are enduring at this time. Throughout your letter you did not mention a boyfriend/relationship or "babydaddy." This in itself is telling- you should not be in this position alone. It takes two to tangle and therefore you need to discuss this pregnancy with your partner ASAP.
I respect you for stepping up to the plate by not using others as scapegoats to your predicament. The reality is that you are three months pregnant and it sounds like you are going into second-trimester pregnancy- whatever your decision is, you must seek medical attention immediately. The question of whether or not you should abort the baby, is a personal decision; this is a question all females have to answer for themselves, and quite frankly, it is a battle you must conquer on your own, with your partner as a support mechanism.
I would recommend that you seek individual and family counseling, as your venting medium. Being able to talk about how you are feeling, with an unbiased individual- naked of pre-judgments and prior knowledge of who you are and your circumstances- proves helpful in times of challenge and hardship. You may check out your local Planned Parenthood site for more information about counseling services, provided to young women and prospective mothers. I hope this answers your question.
Sincerely,
Eternity
Ask Eternity: Should I Tell Her That I'm HIV +?
Dear LSU readers, HIV/AIDS is rampant among the youth of the United States of America. Before reading this letter, one young man wrote anonymously to me, I wish for you all to really consider the facts and figures provided below (aidslifecycle.org). Let them marinate within the sinews of your brain. HIV/AIDS is not a joke. It does not know race, color, gender or age- all people are equal candidates to be affected by and/or infected with HIV/AIDS, including YOU.... Wrap it up.
In the United States:
• Every 9½ minutes, someone is infected with HIV.
• An estimated 56,300 will become infected with HIV this year.
• More than 580,000 have died of AIDS since the epidemic began in 1981.
1.1 million are currently living with HIV, including 21% who are unaware
of their status.
• Young people ages 13-29 account for 34% of all new infections, the
largest share of any age group. Most young people are infected sexually.
• African Americans, although comprising only 12% of the population,
account for 46% of all new infections. Latinos, comprising 15% of the
population, account for 17% of all new infections.
• In general, racial and ethnic minorities account for 67% of those living
with HIV, and 70% of AIDS deaths
Dear Eternity,
I am 20 years old, a young man in college, who is head over heels for this woman I have known for many years. We both attended the same high school together. The love was there, I genuinely love this girl, but I haven't asked her out as a girlfriend just yet. We are just really cool friends. In my first year of college, I was messing around, feeling invincible and unfortunately my actions have caught up with me- I am HIV+. I found out recently on a doctor's visit, realized I was coughing way too much, and feeling unusually weak, lethargic. I'm in some shock, I feel out of place, I feel alone, and my world is crushing down on me. I'm back home from school, and I really want to be with this girl I have so much love for. I want her to be my girlfriend and soon-to-be wife in due time, but my health status will be an obstacle. I'm too ashamed and embarrassed to confront her about it. Should I tell her? Or, should I just keep this between me and my creator?
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
You have a lot on your plate, and this must be a difficult time for you. I empathize with you and I want you to know that you are NOT alone. Bear in mind that your medical situation does not in any way, alter the person you naturally are, and in no provable way, will obscure your aspirations of becoming successful. At this point, you should be more focused on your personal health and to ensure that you seek proper medical attention. Do some research and educate yourself on your current situation because it will be a compass in your journey to optimal health.
To answer your question Anonymous, you should tell your friend of your HIV status on the basis of two factors; 1. You can trust this individual AND 2. You decide to become sexually active with this person (safety is of utmost importance.) You must let your friend know of your status so that she can make an informed decision. Know that your actions here on out can either carve a positive path in your journey throughout life, or can catalyze negativity and misfortune.
Quite frankly, I do not recommend that you become involved in any serious relationship at this time. There is just too much going on right now. You need to allocate all your energies on the betterment of your physical health and mental well being. A relationship can create unnecessary stress and can potentially damage the friendship you have already established. Focus on your welfare right now.
I hope this response guides you in formulating your own solution to the issue presented Anonymous. I wish you all the best, and my support is always yours.
Sincerely,
Eternity
Ask Eternity: Can Highschool Love Last?
Dear Eternity,
My boyfriend and I have been dating for 10 months and I want us to last. I love him with all my heart, and I know he loves me, too. Sometimes I feel that we are too young to be in a serious relationship, even though I want that with him. Next year is our last year of high school, and I don't want us to grow apart because we want the experience of being with other people. I talked to him about this, and he said he doesn't want that to happen either. What should we do?
Sincerely,
Concerned.
Dear Concerned,
Long-distance relationships can be challenging for some and fruitful for others. You need to be aware that your partner cannot physically be there for you all the time, therefore you need to develop your sense of independence. The first step is to know what you both want, and to continually check in and be honest with each other if what you want changes. If you want a future together, then you will need to co-create a vision of the future together and come up with specific ways to stay connected. Sit down and figure out how often you two need to see, speak and write to each other to keep the connection alive -- and what activities will help you to grow closer. It is a good idea to take a class in communication and connection so that you learn to open up honestly and respectfully and you can solve any issues that might arise. You also need to balance your relationship time with your social life. College is a time to explore who you are in this world, and you want to make sure that your relationship uplifts and promotes that exploration. As you grow, stay connected to your partner and let him know how you are changing and developing so that you grow together. I hope this helps you out Concerned.
Sincerely,
Eternity
